Scholarship America is the nation's largest nonprofit, private sector scholarship and educational support organization. It was founded in 1958 in Fall River, Mass. by Dr. Irving Fradkin, an optometrist who challenged everyone in his community to give at least one dollar toward sending its youth to college.
Since then, Scholarship America has distributed more than $1 billion to more than one million students across the country through its Dollars for Scholars® and Scholarship Management Services® programs.
Scholarship America also administers two of the most important scholarship funds in the nation: The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund®, which raised more than $125 million for scholarships for dependents of those killed and permanently disabled in the terrorist attacks of 9/11, and the Disaster Relief Fund for Postsecondary Education, which has raised more than $5 million for students affected by the 2004 and 2005 hurricanes. |
